At Harlem RBI and DREAM Charter School, we foster new relationships every day. On May 14, 2013, we met someone extra special: Prince Harry of Wales.

Prince Harry visited Harlem RBI and DREAM to launch Project Coach, a multi-year continuum of coaching opportunities for youth age 13 and up. This project is a partnership between Harlem RBI and The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry and will be funded in part by the American Friends of The Royal Foundation.

"We are thrilled to partner with The Royal Foundation on Project Coach." Rich Berlin, Harlem RBI Executive Director and DREAM Board of Trustees Chairman, said. "Coaching is at the core of Harlem RBI's mission. At Harlem RBI youth grow not only as baseball and softball players, but also as leaders on and off the field."

As part of his visit, the Prince participated in youth baseball clinics led by Harlem RBI seniors (all of whom are graduating high school) on the Field of Dreams. After catching fly balls and taking swings in the batting cage, Prince Harry stepped into the batter's box ready to show off his newfound talents. As Harlem RBI Board Member and New York Yankee, Mark Teixeira tossed a few batting practice fastballs, His Royal Highness drove two pitches into the outfield. After each hit, the crowds on our East Harlem block roared with delight.

Most importantly, Prince Harry's visit was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our youth. "Playing with Prince Harry was really cool. If he comes here again, I'll be right here on this field waiting for him," 3rd grader Jolita Brettler said. "This prince rocks. He really rocks!"
